Why Luxury Travellers Are Choosing North West Tasmania for Their Next Escape

Why Luxury Travellers Are Choosing North West Tasmania for Their Next Escape

There was a time when luxury travel was defined by busy resorts, packed itineraries and ticking destinations off a list.

Today, travellers are seeking something very different.

They're looking for space. Privacy. Meaningful experiences. Time to reconnect with nature, loved ones and themselves.

It's one of the reasons Tasmania continues to attract record visitor numbers and growing international attention, with travellers increasingly choosing experiences that help them slow down rather than speed up. Recent tourism research shows nature, clean air, tranquillity, stargazing and authentic local experiences are among the strongest drivers of wellness travel in Tasmania.

The Rise of Slow Travel

The most memorable holidays are often the ones where less is planned.

Rather than changing accommodation every night, today's travellers are embracing slow travel — staying longer, exploring deeper and allowing time for unexpected discoveries.

North West Tasmania is perfectly suited to this style of travel.

Here you'll find dramatic mountain landscapes, winding country roads, local food producers, wildlife, walking trails, lakes and charming regional towns, all without the crowds often associated with major tourism destinations.

Why Stay Near Cradle Mountain Rather Than In It?

Cradle Mountain remains one of Australia's most iconic wilderness destinations, attracting visitors from around the world.

But increasingly, travellers are discovering the benefits of staying nearby rather than inside the busy tourism precinct itself.

Located just 55 minutes from Cradle Mountain, Eagles Nest Retreat offers guests the opportunity to experience the national park by day and return to complete privacy and comfort each evening.

There are no crowded hotel corridors, busy restaurants or shared spaces.

Instead, guests enjoy their own private villa, spectacular views of Mount Roland and the freedom to experience Tasmania at their own pace.

Wellness, the Tasmanian Way

Wellness in Tasmania isn't about schedules and appointments.

It's about stepping outside and breathing some of the cleanest air in the world.

It's watching mist roll across the farmland as the sun rises over Mount Roland.

It's soaking in a spa bath beneath a sky filled with stars.

It's enjoying a massage, sharing a meal prepared by a private chef or simply sitting quietly with a coffee and nowhere you need to be.

Tourism Tasmania research has found visitors strongly associate wellness with nature, tranquillity, wildlife, hiking, local produce and open space — all experiences that are woven naturally into a stay at Eagles Nest Retreat.

A Perfect Base for Exploring North West Tasmania

One of the greatest advantages of staying at Eagles Nest Retreat is access to some of Tasmania's most remarkable experiences.

Within an easy drive you can discover:

  • Cradle Mountain National Park

  • Sheffield, the Town of Murals

  • Mount Roland walks and lookouts

  • Lake Barrington

  • Mole Creek Caves

  • Wildlife encounters

  • Scenic self-drive journeys

  • Local wineries and food producers

Many guests arrive planning a busy itinerary and leave saying their favourite memories were the quiet moments spent at the retreat itself.

Redefining Luxury

Luxury is no longer about excess.

Increasingly, luxury is defined by privacy, authenticity, wellbeing and connection.

It's having space to breathe.

It's experiencing nature without crowds.

It's watching the stars from your spa bath and waking to uninterrupted mountain views.

At Eagles Nest Retreat, luxury is found in the simple things that modern life often leaves behind.

And perhaps that's exactly what makes a Tasmanian escape so unforgettable.

Planning Your Tasmania Escape?

Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, luxury wellness retreat, self-drive holiday or a base for exploring Cradle Mountain and North West Tasmania, Eagles Nest Retreat offers a unique opportunity to experience the region at a slower, more meaningful pace.

Because sometimes the most rewarding journeys aren't about seeing more.

They're about feeling more.

Re-opening 15th June for Guests

Just in time for a post-lockdown staycation

Rejuvenate in Secluded Luxury

There has never been a better time to be in Tasmania with most of the world grappling with the current COVID-19 pandemic our lives have been forever changed. For us here in Tasmania we remain vigilant and hopeful as we have locked down and stayed at home and flattened the curve, saving countless lives in our State. We continue to follow the advise of our health authorities and the government, and we're pleased to announce that the road-map out of this is now becoming clearer and we're preparing for our guests once more.

Following the Government's announcement travel restrictions for Tasmanian's will be lifted and we will be open for bookings from the 15th June. Border restrictions will still be in place for interstate visitors so please decide if booking in those cases is right for your travel plans. For our local Tasmanian's who will be looking for a much needed breath of fresh air following months of lockdown, we offer 3 private spa properties with 360 degree mountain views, total privacy and luxury. An exceptional experience awaits you.

Our doors will be re-opening from 15th June for guests. Our entire team has really missed sharing the experience with guests. We've not been idle. We've used the time to do unscheduled maintenance and revamp areas. We're busy finalising new procedures to ensure the wellbeing of our guests which will include self-check in and new cleaning measures in between guests. We couldn't be happier to reopen and we look forward to welcoming guests again from mid-June here at Eagles Nest Retreat on Tasmania's pristine North West Coast.

"We're expecting a rush of bookings from lockdown weary Tasmanians initially as the border restrictions remain in place for the time being. It's a great opportunity for locals to enjoy the natural beauty of our State."

COVID-19 Terms and Conditions

We are aware that the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic is fluid and ever changing and for this reason it is difficult to plan too far ahead. Some unscrupulous operators have not refunded money to people who have been unable to travel or enjoy their holidays as planned. Here at Eagles Nest Retreat we take pride in taking care of our guests and that's also meant financially during the past 3 months - during the closure we have offered penalty free postponements and near full refunds to guests who were unable to visit.

For your peace of mind, if you make a booking for beyond the 15th June and the Government reinstates travel restrictions that prohibit you from enjoying your visit with us, then we will provide you with a penalty free postponement or full refund. We hope this brings you some ease in making your next travel plans to visit us. We appreciate all our guests who have supported us during the past 3 months by postponing their visits in favour of cancellations. We look forward to welcoming you and future guests as of mid-June.
